Another Boomerang Block Received

This one came a couple of days ago from Patti S.

Boomerang 5.0 Set 5

I'm nearly finished with Boomerang 5.0. There are still a couple of ladies who failed to send me their fabric on time (the deadline was April 15!) so if they send me fabric while I'm gone, they're just going to have to wait until October to receive their completed block.

In the pink and white pieced star, there's a little fairy in the top left square. Donna included that with her fabric and requested that it be a part of the block.

Boomerang 5.0 Set 4

"Whirlwind" for Brenda S

I was using the Block Tool app on my iPad for this block, and discovered a mistake. I followed the directions to a T, and the block ended up at 9.5" instead of 12.5". I was forced to add a border around the outside to make it the right size. I think it still looks okay.

"Picture Frame" for Mary D

The print on this fabric was large scale, so I thought this pattern would be a way to showcase it.

"Broken Dishes" for Sandy

I never thought someone would use a black and gray print for their main fabric. It goes perfectly with the seeds in the watermelon. It's now a bright summery block.

"Old Windmill" for Laura B

Laura's fabric was the brown, which let me use the pretty floral for a highlight.

"Old Maid's Puzzle" for KaSandra

KaSandra asked for white, so that's what she got!

I took this one in a different light than the others. It's a very bright green and red; Bonnie wanted a Christmas block.

My First BIG Quilt

When I visited my mother this past Thanksgiving, I promised her a quilt by summer. I knew I had a stash of basket blocks from a swap in my quilt class, and was thinking (at that time) that I'd make a bunch of blocks to go with it. Then I joined a swap on the Quilters' Message Board, and acquired a bunch of blocks using some dusky rose and beige fabric I'd bought.

I had to turn the sampler blocks on end since that's how the baskets go, and therefore the quilt was quite large. Mom's bed is a King, and this quilt measures approximately 108 x 98. The only way I could get a decent picture of it was to have Don hold it and hang it over the edge of our deck.

The quilting was done by January Shaffer, who works out of her home a block away from my office. She did a different pattern for each block! I'm very proud of this--sure wish I could keep it. But Mom will love it.

Block for Caroline

for the Quilters' Message Board Monthly Quilting Bee

Caroline asked for blocks that represent the area in which you live. So I found some fabric that shows California and Route 66.

For this round of Boomerang I decided to send out a "funky" fabric. The light brown and dusky rose were nice for last round, but this time I wanted something bright. This one did the trick. Here are the first 6 received.
