This was a mystery on Bonnie Hunter's website Quiltville. I finished most of the top last winter, then my sister-in-law Carol helped me pick out the border fabric when we were in New Braunfels in April. I finally got around to attaching the borders today. This is the largest quilt top I've made in years - it's a long queen - 84 x 104. I guess I'll try to get around to making Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1900192183841308480.post-31444514357727992402014-11-19T14:12:00.000-08:002014-11-19T14:12:41.910-08:00Gypsy Wife plus 2 SpinoffsWhen I went to the Silver Thread Guild's quilt show in Creede a couple of months ago, I picked up Jen Kingwell's Gypsy Wife pattern. It looked like something that would be fun to make. It was! You select your own fabrics - no directions are given for that - and you plug your blocks into whichever size spaces you want. She moved to our area recently, and is in a different guild that I'll be joining next week.
Her workshop was wonderful, and I'm hooked. Now I have two obsessions - piecing and fabric postcards! I've been exploring Pinterest and Etsy, Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1900192183841308480.post-62959038213202252772014-11-16T10:31:00.000-08:002014-11-16T11:03:07.393-08:00More Charity Quilts FinishedWhile we were in Colorado, I made a lot of tops - I think the total was 10. Some of them have been quilted and bound. Thanks to a few friends from my guild, they were sandwiched and quilted, and then I did the binding. There are three others that have been handed off to friends, and they will complete the binding as well - so I won't have photos of them.

I just had to give this one a try. She says, "August Blog Seed: write a post featuring your first quilt and your last quilt. Its quick, fun, and interesting. Takes two photos and a paragraph or two about how your quilt making has evolved over the years."

This one is for my guild's community service project. It's made from 2.5" scrap squares, and was quilted by Judee Koda, a gal in my guild.
This one is called Pink Charlotte - it's from the book Three Times the Charm. I used a charm pack.
Jessica Cook quilted this one for me. It's a gift for my great-niece Cadence.

It's from the book Modern Quilts in the Blogging Universe.
My wishes for this block:
Background/Neutral - anything from solid white to beige. Any white-on-white or cream-on-cream or beige-on-beige or solids in white/cream/beige will do.
Trees: BRIGHT rainbow colors in modern prints which can include dark pastels (say Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1900192183841308480.post-61553344105655695442014-03-10T18:35:00.002-07:002014-03-10T18:35:47.534-07:00Some scrappy tops I made last month
My own design - I just took a star and elongated it. This uses the split 9-patch technique. All 2 1/2" squares and triangles.
Swoon; uses the split 9-patch technique. 2" squares and triangles.
Using up some 3' squares and triangles.
This one is called "Six Degrees South of the Equator." It's from Scrap-Basket Beauties, but I used 2" strips instead of 2 1/2"

I was fiddling around on Pinterest the other day, and saw this quilt. The artist calls it Ribbon Lattice. I really, really like that quilt. Then last year there was a month in Stash Bee where the block we did was called Simply Woven (a Moda Bakeshop Pattern). Here are the Simply Woven blocks I made for Stash Bee:

This is a little top called Charlotte - from the Book 3 Times Charmed. I used up some blue charms.
Star of Hope - made for Dawnelle - November block for Block Swap Adventure. She asked for southwestern batiks, with the outside being dark and the inside being light.

The quilt hanging in the store is the Christmas Swoon - all reds and greens. I made a scrappy star top, as well as a scrappy swoon (picture of that one to come later.)

These are both made from the same block - the X+ block. The first uses coordinating fabric; the other is scrappy. So far, I've heard that everyone likes the scrappy one best. I like them both equally. I decided to make a Christmas Swoon quilt, using Camille Roskelley's pattern. There was a swoon-along group on Flickr (I saw it too late to join), and I got the idea from there. I finished it yesterday, and took it to the quilt show today to give to Kristen. She'll hang it in the shop, Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1900192183841308480.post-67126578138870507342013-10-11T20:01:00.000-07:002013-10-11T20:01:27.841-07:00A little of this and thatI haven't posted for a month - but have been super busy cranking out tops and blocks! And earlier this week, I dropped off four tops to be quilted - so when those come back, I'll have four completed quilts to share. Here are some things I've been working on lately:
Spools blocks for guild BOM
"Boomers" - made for September Block Lotto

I like making the individual blocks and deciding what colors and designs to use.

And starting to get caught upI never did say in this blog where I was going for the summer - and now I'm back. I told all about it on Facebook and on my travel blog Wanderlust, so I guess I need to tell a little bit here.
I was working in Yellowstone National Park. I thought I'd try working for a summer while Don fished, and got hired at the General Store at Mammoth Hot Springs (at the north entrance). We took Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1900192183841308480.post-15020408383317452032013-04-27T20:10:00.000-07:002013-04-27T20:10:40.926-07:00Strip Twist
I made this top in two days - it's from 2 1/2" strips. I donated it to our guild's community service program, and Barbara K took it home to make it into a quilt.
This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern, free from her website. I knew that since there was a box of triangles needing to be used, the first quilt I'd make would be this one.
There are 587 triangles in this quilt. It was quilted by Alex Shaffer.

I started this quilt in Emily Cier's class at Road to California in January. I finished the top in February, and finally took it to Alex to get it quilted last week. I sewed the binding on a couple of nights ago. The quilting pattern is a unique angular one called Modern Mayhem. I never met Emma, but she was a member of both of the guilds that I belong to. As I was sorting through all of the fabric, I felt like I'd hit a Civil War goldmine. The pattern is in the book _Sunday Morning Quilts_, an excellent book I bought in Bishop about storing and using every bit of your scraps. I should finish piecing the top tomorrow. For those of you unfamiliar with California, it's a town about 5 hours north of here at the edge of the Eastern Sierras, known for its big Mule Days celebration and rodeo every Memorial Day. It's also the home of Galen Rowell, who was a famous rock climber turned photographer. There's a wonderful museum of his photography that I make sure to Cyndihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08485300845528483642noreply@blogger.com1
