Merry (Early) Christmas to Me!

My gift from my husband is coming early- it's a Singer Featherweight 221-1 Sewing Machine, made in January of 1948. It has the original foot controller, plus a new alphasew foot pedal. It's in "mint" condition - shiny paint and little wear. It even comes with the (rare) original booklet, plus some extra needles, bobbins, and other accessories. It also comes with the carrying case.

Now I just have to learn how to use it! But I'm sooo excited.

Oh Cyndi,,,this is truly a wonderful Christmas gift:) I'm so happy for you! My mother has her grandmother's and she's giving it to me. How wonderful you're getting all the extras...a carrying case and all!! Congrats!!
I'm sure you will learn in no time how to use it! Heck, like we mentioned earlier, if no local sewing classes...there are tons of tutorials on line:) Have fun!

It's beautiful and it is a lot like the one my mom had that I used all the time when I was a teenager.

I remember well how it sounded as the wheel motor turned....

Take care!

Congratulations! It's a great gift. I think it's like the one of one of my aunts, where I learn to sew. It is mechanical, we must use our feet. It was difficult in the beginning. I'll wait to see some more beautiful finish (I LOVE the Christmas tree!!). Hugs! MJ

Very nice! I have one that was born in 1947. They are very simple to use. They are a little bit of work to thread, but you have the book, the diagram is fairly easy to follow. I made an entire quilt on mine but then I got my new sewing machine and got spoiled. They are fun though.
