I use as much of my fabric as I can - down to the smallest scraps possible. My reason? We started a new round of Boomerang on the Quilters' Message Board. So, I was merrily cutting and sewing, making dozens and dozens of little flying geese to be used in the Crumb Along.  I think I made about 80.  Then I moved to the next step, which was to use the flying geese in stars.   I quickly realized that I'd made mine completely different from Jo's, and they would not work in the stars.  Jo started with rectangles that were approximately 1 1/2" x 2 1/2".

During spring break, I took a few things with me so I could make some small quilts.   This one is made from a little pack of 2.5" squares I received as a gift. I really didn't enjoy making this block.  The directions I used were from Quilters' Cache (the Marcia Hohn site), and required a step where I was to make a paper template, then measure out a plastic template 1/4" larger all around, and then cut out the fabric from there.  It turned out I could have a) rotary cut the rectangles, then b) cut them from one corner to the other for the corners, and

I finished the quilt top for the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt! In looking for the right fabric to use for sashing, I decided to try red - and it's a nice-looking red. I used white for the cornerstones and border. Since I did all 111 of the blocks, I have a queen-sized quilt that I'm going to get quilted and give to my sister Eileen. This is one of Eleanor Burns' quilts - the Victory Quilt, using 6" blocks. It was my Christmas gift to him. Yesterday I went to "Quilt 'Til You Wilt" at the Quiet Mouse. It was just an all-day work-on-whatever-you-want activity, with food, drinks, drawings, and games.  I took my hand-crank, since Kristen asked me to, but my Featherweight was supposed to be fixed.  I set up the Featherweight and discovered that it was fixed, and it wasn't.  The feed dogs didn't clunk any more, but they weren't set high

When I initially saw the two Civil War quilt books, I was intrigued, but thought I had plenty to do already - so I didn't buy them.  Then I saw this one, published in 2009, and HAD to have it.  It's called The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt, and has 111 different 6" blocks.  What's different (or new) for me is the fact that the blocks are made with templates.  I really was put off by the templates -

One of the groups I'm in is Bee Obsessed. Each month one person selects a theme, and we all make one or two blocks for her in that theme. The theme for January was Rainbows, so Molly chose to make her quilt with all the colors of the rainbow. This one is different from other quilts I've received in that the squares are on top of the white fabric, and are stitched over the top. My Carol Doak Yahoo group is beginning a round robin - but this is more like a do-it-yourself mystery. Carol gives us instructions, and we decide how to follow them. The first step was to create a center block - and we got to choose which one and how large it would be. Ryan is also known as I'mjustaguywhoquilts in my Flickr swap group, Swap Till You Drop (STUD). We were partners for the "anything goes" theme, and he sent me this cool blue-green tree. Take a look at the stars he embroidered, and the rays of quilting. This is a really nicely done quilt.

This is a mini I received from QuiltyBee, my partner for the "go green" theme for the December swap on STUD. I joined the 2010 Quilting Bee - one block per month swap on the Quilters' Message Board. The concept is pretty neat - I pick a theme for the whole year, but each month a different person makes me a block with my theme. I then get 12 different partners for whom I make a block with each one's chosen theme. My partner for January - and we've already sent and received - was Mary. Her chosen theme

My senior year of high school. I'm the one in the middle with the cool shag haircut. Eileen was a sophomore, and Toi Lynn was in the 4th grade. I was reading "The Night Before Christmas," a Floyd family and then a Holman family tradition for Christmas Eve.I was so proud of this brown corduroy pantsuit! Brown and pink - great colors for 1973!
