This is the beginnings of my Crumb-Along quilt. I've been making liberated blocks for several months now, so this one was easy peasy.  I don't like the top middle square, though.  But that's just the way it's going to be!

(Retirement keeps you busy...) It was held at the Yucaipa Community Center, which has a huge gymnasium that served as a wonderful location for our show. I joined the guild too late to be one of the in-show volunteers, but was able to do some service by helping with the dismantling on Sunday.

In addition to serving as docents for the museum, they are involved in fund raising to support the museum. They are also quilters. A couple of weeks ago they held a quilt show, and Don and I decided to go check it out.

After spending all day Thursday on flying geese that ended up being used for something else, I finally got the hang of them for the Crumb Along. 

I set up a "star factory."  I went through my boxes and trays of fabric, and made a bunch of what I'll call base sets.

While we were on our Alaska Highway trip this summer, we saw many, many of these for sale at the souvenir and gift shops. We saw them made of jade, gold, rocks, marble, wood, and lots of other materials.  This is called an Inukshuk, also spelled Inuksuk, which is a type of cairn. Everyone is doing such a fabulous job of coordinating the colors, and each block is different.  There's very little repetition of colors, too, so the quilt made with these blocks will be very bright and colorful.

I was using the Block Tool app on my iPad for this block, and discovered a mistake. I followed the directions to a T, and the block ended up at 9.5" instead of 12.5". I was forced to add a border around the outside to make it the right size.  I think it still looks okay.

 This one is made from a little pack of 2.5" squares I received as a gift. I gave it to a young woman named Jessica, who used to play soccer with Theresa. She was another recipient  of the "pay it forward" I did on Facebook.

She needed me at noon, so I had until then to do my "shopping" and viewing of the quilts.

It's on the Quilters' Message Board, and it's called Boomerang.There are 36 of us in a group. I send a Fat Eighth of fabric to all the other 35. They create a 12.5" block with my fabric, adding in some of their own, and send it back to me. I end up with 35 different blocks all using my fabric.

In looking for the right fabric to use for sashing, I decided to try red - and it's a nice-looking red. I used white for the cornerstones and border.   Since I did all 111 of the blocks, I have a queen-sized quilt that I'm going to get quilted and give to my sister Eileen.

One of the groups I'm in is Bee Obsessed. Each month one person selects a theme, and we all make one or two blocks for her in that theme. Scootin' Annie had May, and she's doing a quilt with transportation themed blocks. I had a couple small squares, and built blocks around them. This one is different from other quilts I've received in that the squares are on top of the white fabric, and are stitched over the top. There happens to be a 12-foot high snowbank below the pole they need to work on; Don's not sure they're going to be able to reconnect the line without a big truck and cherry picker.  And there's no place to park one. I'm the one in the middle with the cool shag haircut.  Eileen was a sophomore, and Toi Lynn was in the 4th grade. I was reading "The Night Before Christmas," a Floyd family and then a Holman family tradition for Christmas Eve.I was so proud of this brown corduroy pantsuit!
